Blepharoplasty Q&A

What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is surgery to repair droopy eyelids. Your surgeon might remove excess skin, fat, or muscle and tighten the remaining tissue to improve your line of vision and the appearance of your eyelids. Doing so results in less sagging, younger-looking eyes, and diminished eye bags.

Sanctuary Cosmetic Center’s Dr. Soheila Rostami, MD, FAAO, FAACS, specializes in Asian blepharoplasty.

Is blepharoplasty right for me?

To find out if blepharoplasty is the right aesthetic procedure for you, your plastic surgeon reviews your medical history, examines your eyelids, and may complete a vision examination. You might be a good candidate for the procedure if you have:

  • Heavy upper eyelids
  • Impaired vision
  • Headaches because of heavy eyelids
  • Wrinkled, puffy, or hollowed eyelids
  • Dark undereye circles
  • Loose, sagging lower eyelids

Eye rejuvenation is the result of upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty. Sanctuary Cosmetic Center personalizes each procedure to match your unique needs and desired outcome, giving you the best possible results.

How should I prepare for blepharoplasty?

Prior to blepharoplasty, it’s important to follow your doctor’s pre-procedure instructions. Stop taking certain medications, don’t smoke for several weeks before surgery, and arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure.

Before the procedure, your surgeon takes eyelid photographs from different angles to properly plan your surgery to achieve the best outcome.

What happens during the procedure?

When you arrive for blepharoplasty at Sanctuary Cosmetic Center’s state-of-the-art surgical suite, your provider gives you local anesthesia so you don’t feel any pain. They make incisions in your upper eyelid crease, the inside of your lower eyelids, or directly under your lower eyelashes, and reshape your lids.

Your surgeon may remove or reposition fat during the procedure, and use removable sutures to close your incisions. They might pair blepharoplasty with eyebrow and forehead lifts to optimize your results.

What should I expect after blepharoplasty?

After blepharoplasty, have a friend or family member drive you home. Follow your post-surgery instructions and keep your eyelids clean.

Recovery time is short, but you might experience temporary swelling and bruising while you heal. Downtime after blepharoplasty is about a week, so avoid strenuous activity until your surgeon gives you the okay.

Don’t live with droopy eyelids that diminish your youthful appearance or line of vision. Schedule a blepharoplasty consultation with the experts at Sanctuary Cosmetic Center by phone or online today.
